London's Most Talented Developers Congregate for the Node.js Showcase
Award-winning digital agency 'Cyber-Duck' successfully host Node.js London meetup.
HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, December 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- London Digital Agency, Cyber-Duck, this week successfully hosted their first London based meetup from Bayley Street in London. The group, The Digital Pond was created as a way to get some of the best business, marketing, design and technology professionals in the industry together for networking and learning.
The 'Node.js showcase' was the first London-based event, and gave Cyber-Duck the opportunity to assemble London's most innovative and exciting web developers and allow them to showcase and present some awe-inspiring projects and real life demonstrations using one of the freshest web development tools.
Node.js is a cutting edge technology that's changing the way real-time web apps are developed and has the potential to replace past server scripting languages. Although not completely new, this is something that many UK developers are not familiar with, which is why Cyber-Duck wanted to expose, endorse and help teach both beginner and hard-core web developers about the benefits of utilising Node.js.
The event featured 7 guest speakers who all spoke about their experiences with the server-side Javascript implementation and provided some real life demonstrations of their work in practice. Cyber-Duck's very own John Hamelink and Gareth Drew presented Cyber-Duck's latest R&D project in Coffee Lottery, a web application designed for the home or office which allows users to order their daily coffee, before randomly selecting one of the participants to prepare the entire order.
The application, while built in PHP with twitter's oAuth API, demonstrates how Node.js can be used to add an extra sparkle to the project by enabling real-time functionality with relatively little effort. The pair spoke about how they incorporated Node.js into the project, conducted a live demonstration and took users through their process step-by-step.
Guest speakers also included Jonah Fox who spoke about brequire - a CommonJS environment for the browser, Rob Tweed who spoke about the development of Javascript/Node.js front-ends for global storage databases, Marek Majkowski who presented the SockJS framework, Kornel Lesinski who presented his 'Lightsaber Centralhack' and Mike Cronnelly who spoke about experiences developing and hosting two large Node.js websites for News International.
As well as the guest speakers, the event featured free beers and pizza for all who attended, which was funded by sponsors of the event; Byng Systems, Couchbase and Clock.
Future events are planned in the New Year, with the next event to be on the theme of user experience. If you wish to view the Cyber-Duck Node.js video from the event, simply click here.
